Cutting-Edge Construction

With the advancement of technology in the construction industry, staying competitive means staying up-to-date with the latest precision instruments and equipment. At the forefront of construction technology, GBI is continuing to forge ahead of the competition with a complete array of technological resources.

Ghilotti Bros. TechnologyBefore bidding a job, GBI’s estimating department utilizes comprehensive three-dimensional modeling and quantity take-off software through our AGTEK digitized quantity takeoff system, as well as the implementation of that data in field operations with the Trimble 5800 complete survey system. Once a job has begun, GBI then monitors project costs using a Timberline software program to generate daily costs within a 24-hour turnaround. This tool provides the ability for all operations management and supervisors to review daily production totals, unit costs, total costs, and cost variances on a line item basis and also allows GBI to communicate Not to Exceed costs, manage owners’ budgets, and forecast project completion costs. Through the extensive use of Primavera scheduling software and Microsoft Project, project managers create and maintain detailed schedules for each GBI project. All project correspondence is scanned daily and accessible to all GBI management electronically for their review.

GBI’s field equipment is integrated with Global Positioning System (GPS) components that have allowed us to increase our efficiency throughout our grading, paving, and underground operations. GBI is connected with 30 satellites in 6 different orbits to achieve tolerances of less than .003’ on both vertical and horizontal planes. GBI employs two full-time GPS Field Engineers and one full-time Office Engineer for our numerous ongoing projects. GPS sensors on each piece of equipment not only monitor its location and aid in recovery if stolen, but also relay start-up and hourly usage back to headquarters to allow management to efficiently schedule daily maintenance, as well as yearly servicing requirements remotely. GPS on the equipment affords GBI to reduce the owner’s survey costs resulting from lost/damaged staking.

With the implementation of its newest technological software, Preciseware “Talking Dispatch,” GBI directs over 200 craftsmen to their next day’s assignment through one call center. Each employee accessing the call center receives job name, start time, directions to the job, and any other pertinent information, and it saves the dispatcher from making those hundreds of calls late each night. Utilizing this software also offers the feature of emergency dispatch.

Ghilotti Bros. TechnologyThese industry-leading capabilities allow GBI to maximize effectiveness on all levels of production, delivering a quality product to our clients and our community.
